THE RISING SIGN
The sign at the horizon the moment you were born. The Rising Sign is also referred to as the Ascendant.
In our first class together, we begin to build a foundation. We journey through the signs of the zodiac and explore how each sign works in the Rising Sign position. We’ll explore the signs by looking at them in pairs. Each sign has a sign directly opposite it on the wheel and these energies work together as a duo.
Here are the pairs of signs opposite one another:
Aries – Libra
Taurus – Scorpio
Gemini – Sagittarius
Cancer – Capricorn
Leo – Aquarius
Virgo – Pisces
Note: Due to time constraints, we address Virgo and Pisces in Class Two!
I also discuss the detriments, falls and exaltations for each sign. These categories describe a planet’s relationship with a sign. Some planets work in harmony with certain signs, while other planets experience friction or resistance when they reside in a particular sign. For example, a planet is in detriment when it is in the sign opposite the sign it rules. The planet operates with less strength in this position. When a planet falls in a certain sign, it simply means it is somewhat debilitated in that sign. Both detriments and falls may be uncomfortable for the personality but excellent for the growth of the soul. Finally, when a planet is exalted in a sign, it is comfortable and functions well. It doesn’t rule the sign but operates with ease and grace.
We also explore the personality and soul phrases for each sign and the polarity of each sign (masculine or feminine). There is a handout for these delineations for your reference.
Remember, there is a LOT of information to digest in the first few classes. Take notes if you like or just let it wash over you. Each class will build upon the previous one and the language and terminology will become more familiar. Enjoy!
